What is Family Mediation?

  • Your mediator helps You work out a solution together
  • Solve your problem together in a safe, impartial and confidential environment
  • You make the decisions
  • Avoid upsetting and costly court disputes
  • A mediator does not take sides
  • Your mediator helps you look at your needs for the future

Why Choose Family Mediation?

Couples and other family members use Family Mediation to make arrangements on divorce or separation, or relationship breakdown. For established relationships, Family Mediation provides a place for couples to make arrangements for a living together agreement or a pre-nup. For ongoing court disputes Family Mediation provides a different way of resolving seemingly impossible problems.

East Yorkshire Family Mediation provides mediation for:
• Financial arrangements
• Contact with children for parents and grandparents
• Other family members affected by separation or divorce

Do I need a solicitor?

Not always. Some couples are reffered to mediation by their solicitors to help them resolve disputes without going to court; sometimes you may need advice from a solicitor during the mediation process. When you have concluded your mediation, it will be a solcitior who draws up a legally binding agreement between you.

How much does it cost?

You pay for each mediation session, and for the cost of the mediatior preparing one or more written summaries. As a guide, you should expect to pay £135 per person per session.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies because every couple has different needs. Some couples are able to resolve their issues in 3 - 5 sessions, some couples find it takes longer to reach a solution.

How do I pay?

We take payment by credit card at each session

Who pays?

Each person pays their own fees, unless you agree to share the fees between you in a different way.
